1RM Formulas: Epley, Brzycki, Lombardi
1RM formulas use weight times reps to infer a max. Epley and Brzycki are close at 3-5 reps; Lombardi shifts depending on reps. High reps, single-joint lifts and endurance athletes add more error.
Epley: w times (1 + reps/30).
Brzycki: w times 36 divided by (37 minus reps).
Lombardi: w times reps to the 0.10 power.
Error grows above 10 reps.
Range of motion, pauses and momentum all matter.
FAQ
Why do the three results differ?
They fit different populations; averaging is more stable.
Same formula for squat, bench and deadlift?
Yes, but error differs by lift; use data from the same lift.
